Community Action Grant 2011

Investigating the role of organic inputs to improve soil carbon levels within the North East Downs Landcare region
This project will engage landholders in a series of paddock based trials to evaluate the potential to increase soil carbon in both cropping and pasture situations. Soil carbon samples will be taken to establish baseline levels at several sites across the region and the project will trial the effects of various rates and mixtures of organic inputs such as manure and compost from sources including local feedlots. These trials will be replicated and the results, including a cost analysis, will be reported. The project will demonstrate the benefits of using alternative ways of building carbon levels on farms and will significantly benefit the local farming community.
